Job Purpose
The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life performs professional duties in the areas of advising and personal development of students within the Fraternity & Sorority Life community at the College of Charleston. Meets regularly with Greek councils and assists the members of these groups with the development of programs, services and resources intended for use by the council and its member organizations.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in and relevant experience is required. Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or related field and a minimum of 2 years full-time experience in higher education is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience giving presentations and speaking to various audiences is required. Experience with computer software to include MS Office is essential. Experience with working with ICS and OmegaFi. Must have working knowledge of Fraternity & Sorority Life related topics, principles, policies and practices. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions is preferred. Must have the ability to effectively prioritize, plan and organize work and tasks to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to train others as needed, be courteous and deal effectively with other personnel as well as the public is essential. Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. Ability to work and maintain focus in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Frequent oversight or participation in weekend and evening educational activities. Occasional overnight travel to professional conferences.

Fraternity/Sorority Advising: Directly advise one fraternity or sorority council in all areas, including recruitment processes, budgeting, event planning, risk management and judiciary processes. Works with student members, campus, local and national advisors, (inter)national organizations to push chapters to meet and/or exceed the standards of behavior and excellence expected by the institution, local chapters, and national Greek letter organizations. Advises chapter presidents; engages in organizational development plans with chapter officers with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement.

Coordinates leadership programming including the Greek Emerging Leaders program and the Greek Leadership Institute and recognition including the annual Borelli Greek Awards for the fraternity and sorority community.

Coordinates large scale, community-wide programming for approximately 2,000 students. Advise students in the planning and implementation of at least one large scale event each semester. Advises student planners on best practices and works towards events being community building and encouraging collaboration across all councils.
