What I liked most about my internship with AMC Networks was how close nit all of the departments worked and interacted with each other.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a little bit more of a responsibility, but being in the entertainment industry in the summer production was a bit slow.

I would advise anyone to take as many opportunities as they can and as they're presented with.

Marketing & Social Team

What I liked

I really enjoyed the level of proximity I had to all members of the company: my supervisor, my team, other employees outside of my team, and even the executive suite. As someone freshly interested in media & entertainment, working at AMC was great for getting a sense of not only what a career in Marketing and/or Social would be like, but also dozens of other career opportunities by getting to talk to other employees directly throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

More direct feedback on my work performance. Because of the speed at which work needed to be done at the company, we moved very quickly from one project to another, and this sometimes left no room to check-in on whether the assignment was up to task and discuss what could be done better for next time.

Advice

Make plenty of connections and make yourself available. AMC's employees have a level of openness and sociability unlike any company I've worked at before, and are also incredibly intelligent. You'll want to make a lasting impression on the people there. So in an organic way, make sure not only your work skills but also your social skills are put to the test.

What I liked

I love the team, atmosphere and the creative outlet I am allowed. Everyday is something I look forward to. There’s phenomenal flexibility in my schedule and great work life balance. I feel like I can use all my skills to assist and be of great value to my team.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I wish I would have started earlier!

Advice

Go for what you know in your heart is what you wanted to do. Go for it. Don’t wait for it to be available. Make a company aware of you and set yourself apart.

What I liked

This internship was an incredible opportunity that proved even more educational than I expected. AMC has an established internship program where each intern is valued, challenged and given real work. The program also provided resources for the interns such as resume workshops, panels with former interns, and a summer long project in which interns worked in a team to present a new idea to the executive board, including the CEO.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I don't wish anything had been different! I would strongly suggest this internship to anyone interested.

Advice

I would advise interns to make connections with as many people as possible in different departments. Everybody is willing to share their experience and give advice and many employees have very interesting career paths. Your intern manager will be willing to connect you with anyone you wish to speak with, so take advantage of that!

What I liked

The internship program comprehensively introduced me to the entire company, beyond the team I was assigned to. There were resume building workshops, presentations by executives, and public speaking opportunities to prepare interns for the workforce. I met so many smart, creative and helpful people who taught me so much and gave me real assignments, not just paperwork/menial 'intern' tasks. I feel prepared to enter the workforce after this experience.

What I wish was different

Honestly, nothing! I couldn't have had a better experience.

Advice

I would advise other interns to take the opportunity to grab coffee and connect with as many people as possible, even if they don't have a job you are interested in. My manager offered to connect me with anyone each week and I wish I would have taken him up more on that.
