Andersen

Private Client Services Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I loved working at Andersen. Everyone is extremely helpful in getting you to understand how to do the work. And no worries, I only had the first two intro accounting classes, so there's no requirement for tax classes.

What I wish was different

I can't really say, it was just about as good as it can get (not a google internship or anything, but a great place to work). The only thing you need to expect is a LOT of downtime. I spent hours not actually doing anything, but my cohort got along super well and we made the best of it.

Advice

For one, you get paid a ton of money so don't spend it all in one place. Secondly, the learning curve is steep, but don't let that discourage you. They really admire when you ask for help and reach out and meet new people. Make as many connections as you can - and when you are getting an assignment, always bring a pad and paper to write down what they're telling you!

SALT Intern

June - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The tax professionals at Andersen Tax are world class. Most started their career at a Big Four Firm but joined Andersen because they believed in the brand and in the firm. The culture in the firm is very different than the firms I have recruited with. Andersen delivers the client high quality service to their clients while not demanding an insane amount of time and energy from their employees.

What I wish was different

As with many tax internships in the summer months, there is no busy season and so there is not always a ton of work. I think this can be said with any tax internship no matter the firm.

Advice

Spend time getting to know the professionals at the firm. Pick their brains and learn about their experience. An internship is really to get a better sense of the firm and to see if it is a good fit.
