Bipartisan Policy Center

Intern

September 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

The office vibe is a good balance of relaxed and professional. The policy-oriented nature of certain projects yields a lot of educational value for interns.

What I wish was different

The supervisors are often really occupied and unable to give prompt feedback. Additionally, sometimes there just isn't much work to do, and when there is work, it may seem trivial.

Advice

Come into the job with vision: have goals of what specific topics you want to learn more about, what you want write about, and projects you want to work on.

Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I really enjoyed the internship program in and of itself as there were many opportunities to interact with senior staff and discuss relevant issues like negotiating salaries/interview prep/grad school possibilities. I also worked on a variety of projects so there was something new for me to do almost everyday.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there was a waiting period between projects as my supervisors assigned them to me.

Advice

Take advantage of the opportunities available and try to attend as many on-site and off-site events.
