Cleveland Clinic

Biology Research Intern

June 2021 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

It was a small lab so I got to be involved in a lot of high tier work that most undergraduates may not have.

What I wish was different

Not much! I loved it. I did need a car to get there, so the commute from campus was a bit difficult if my shared car was unavailable.

Advice

Try to get involved! If you show initiative, they'll let you get more involved.

nurse associate extern

May - August 2020 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I loved that I got to precept with an experienced med-surg nurse who allowed me to see what a realistic day is like. Every day was different and the experience was far different from clinicals. I was able to be very involved with the patients and get to know them, as well as do report and patient education. There were three "experience days" where we got sent to other hospitals to units of our choice where you got to precept with another nurse there, which was really cool. Lastly, there were workshops once a week that were a part of the 40 hour week where we covered nursing basics and practiced skills which was super helpful. I highly suggest this internship experience.

What I wish was different

The only thing that would have added to the experience was being able to pass medications with our nurse.

Advice

I highly suggest applying if you are going into your last year of school, and to choose experience days on units that you may not have considered before; I never thought I would like ICU nursing and that's where I was sent, and I loved it.
