Hanesbrands, Inc.

Data Science Intern

June - August 2023 • Winston-Salem, NC

What I liked

From day one, I worked on a real problem with the analytics team that could impact business decisions. The executive leadership team made the time to personally speak with the interns about the company and their teams. I was assigned a manager and a mentor, and both were incredible resources for my project and my professional development. Summer hours made it possible for me to maximize my time on Fridays!

What I wish was different

I wish that the program set up intern categorization, pay scale, and professional development activities based on our experience relative to our department, rather than the title of our credentials. However, I did receive excellent personalized advice from my manager, mentor, and the leaders of my team when I reached out to them on my own.

Advice

Ask early on which software tools, packages, platforms, etc are used by your full-time teammates and why. It might save you time in the long run if you pick the right tool for the task early on in your project. Do not be afraid to reach out to anyone for anything! Hanesbrands is such a friendly environment, and I would not have succeeded at my internship without the support of my coworkers at every stage of my project.

E-Commerce Intern

What I liked

The orientation program was great! We had the chance to meet with leadership and learn about the transformation and potential growth opportunities. I felt very empowered afterward.

What I wish was different

The role is very self-driven, so you get out what you'd like to. I'd recommend being ok with ambiguity and paving your own path. I don't wish it were different, but some may.

Advice

Meet with lots of varying people and functions. Everyone is very open to meeting and sharing their experiences.

Product Management Intern

June - August 2022 • Winston-Salem, NC

What I liked

Exciting and hands-on product marketing, brand marketing, and product management experience. Loved my close-knit cohort as well as the close proximity to senior business leaders and various business functions across the company.

What I wish was different

You're on your own for housing! Be sure to reach out to Wake Forest University or subleases nearby as early as possible or you might have to make some last minute decisions that will be financially costly.

Product Management Intern

June - August 2022 • Winston-Salem, NC

What I liked

I liked how I was able to work on my own project and speak to a lot of new people. I was really able to make this experience personable.

What I wish was different

Would've liked some of the HR experiences to be a little clearer or go a little faster. Sometimes even my own manager was confused about what was happening because it wasn't communicated to them.

Advice

Go out of your comfort zone and meet people to gain the knowledge you can't get in a classroom.

Procurement Intern

June - August 2019 • Winston-Salem, NC

What I liked

I liked that projects I was able to work on. I was given full autonomy and was accountable for all deadlines, budgets, and savings targets. It felt very immersive.

What I wish was different

I wish they had helped with finding housing in a larger sense other than connecting out of state interns. I also wish they had a longer duration than 9 weeks.

Advice

Be creative and think 5 steps ahead - they will be expecting you to do so and you do not wants to be caught off guard.
