The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research

Undergraduate Research Assistant

May - October 2019 • Manhasset, NY

What I liked

Gave really good hands on experience, helped to strengthen my knowledge of the field I was working in a great deal. Also really enjoyed seeing all of the different experiments that were performed by various individuals in the lab helped me understand what I was really interested in and what I wanted to work on.

What I wish was different

That there wasn’t as much of a time requirement, being unpaid meant that More difficult time consuming tasks were not delegated to me as a result there really was not a need for me to come in 3 or 4 times a week. Unfortunately the individual I was working under did not understand this and kept asking me to come in only for me to sit there with a lot of downtime on my hands.

Advice

Prior to agreeing to making any commitment make sure you have an agreement on how often you should come in and make sure that there is work for you to do when you come in
